Nuna5

The fifth car of the Nuon Solar Team drove the World Solar Challenge 2009 in 32 hours and 38 minutes. Its average speed was 91.88 kilometers per hour. Unlike its four predecessors, Nuna5 did not obtain a gold medal and had to settle for second place.

Nuna5 was 161.2 kilograms, a lot lighter than Nuna4 with a difference of 40 kilograms! In addition, she had 25% less drag than its predecessor after production.

Unfortunately Nuna5 crashed two weeks before the World Solar Challenge. Practically the whole vehicle had to be built up again, within two weeks. Due to this the detailing of Nuna5 was not what it used to be and the car performed slightly less well than what it was designed for. Nevertheless, it is a great achievement that the car was rebuilt within 2 weeks and still managed to get to second place in the World Solar Challenge 2009.
