Nuna6 is slowly taking shape. The carbon structure of our solar car is currently in our workshop here in Delft. Our mechanical and electrical engineers are working on the interior of the car at this very moment.
My job is to ensure that no parts are forgotten in the assembly process. I keep track of all the engineers and make sure that all of their components are finished at the right time.
Herman one of our mechanical engineers is mounting the tires to the rims of Nuna6 while our Eric the other mechanical engineer is working on the engine which is located in the rear rim. Last week we received many packages, one of these packages included the Intrax springs which will be used in the suspension of Nuna6.
Willem and Javier our electrical engineers are working on the brain of Nuna6. They are programming the board computer which will control all of the onboard electrical systems of Nuna6. On the last test week which was on the 4th of June they already had the entire electrical system of Nuna6 operational in the Nuna5 car.
Meanwhile our production crew is back in Delft. Our team is back together once again and that is a serious boosts for the teams spirit. It gives our team the extra energy which is needed to make Nuna6 a great racing car.
The top part of our solar car has already left our workshop again and is currently in Sassenheim. This is where AkzoNobel Sikkens is finishing our car with a coating to make sure that the surface on Nuna6 is nice and smooth.
Nadine is our ergonomics enigeer. She is working on the cockpit of Nuna6. She is mounting all the buttons and switches in the right places. She makes sure that the car is easy to handle and that drivers can easily find the buttons and switches they need.
The driver’s window is currently being made. Last week I picked up the aluminum mold for the window in Vaassen were it was made by Ter Weeme. It was then brought to Van Geene who poblished the mold. The mold is now ultra-smooth. The reason that it has to be so extremely smooth is because the visibility through the window is determined by the smoothness of the mold. Because it is so smooth drivers will have a clear view of what is ahead of them.
The solar array will be here in just a couple of weeks. The arrival of the solar panel is a very exciting moment. It is the first time that we are using Silicon based solar cells. We are very curious to the total efficiency of the panel and we will find out in a week or so.
