The Challenge

The challenge which the Nuon Solar Team faces is clear: to bring the world cup of solar racing back to Delft with their newest solar car; Nuna6. After four victories in a row and a second place in 2009, it is time to go head to head against the 30 other participating teams from around the world.

On Tuesday, 28th June 2011, the car is put in the spotlight for the first time. The Nuon Solar Team will present Nuna6 at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

The World Solar Challenge 2011 starts on 16th October in Darwin, Australia. Thirteen students from the Technical University in Delft are going into battle there against 30 other teams to win ‘gold’ for the fifth time.

The 13 students from the TU Delft have been working since mid-2010 in the utmost secrecy on the design and construction of Nuna6. The team includes talented young people from many different disciplines all working together.

‘Thanks to changes in the rules and stiffer competition, this year is going to be the most fascinating World Solar Challenge ever. The great solar car, a strong team and a clever strategy means that we are starting in a strong position. After getting second place in 2009, we are going to Australia to win again.’ says Pier van Zonneveld proudly, the team leader of the Nuon Solar Team.
