The Design of the Nuna 3 has come to an end! All teammembers are busy with the production of the solar car and the organization of all non-technical aspects of the project. We do not yet make the detailed design of the Nuna 3 public, but we do not keep it a secret that the Nuna 3 has undergone improvements on all the technical aspects.
Better Solarcells
The solarcells are the most important components of the solar car. The more sunlight the
cells convert in electrical energy, the faster the Nuna 3 can go. The efficiency of our solar
cells are higher than our predecessors.
Aerodynamic Design
The energy use of the car is mainly dependent on the air resistance. After months of
optimisation and aerodynamic simulations, we came to a new design. The air resistance of the Nuna 3
is lower than ever. The theoretical results were confirmed in the windtunnel
of the TU Delft.
Low weight
The other most important factor that influences the energy use is the weight of the car.
The higher the weight, the more rolling resistance the car has to overcome. The tyres will
wear out faster when the car is heavier. By using advanced lightweight materials and
application of new design methods the weight of the Nuna 3 will be reduced considerably.
Telemetry and strategic optimisation.
During the race, efficient use of the solar energy is very important. A strategic
optimisation program determines the ideal velocity, based on battery charge,
solar intensity, clouds, the track and such.
