The Nuon Solar Team follows the Alpha Centauri Team that has won the World Solar Challenge in 2001 and the Nuon Solar Team that won the race in 2003.

The first Nuna team was set up in 2000 by Ramon Martinez and Kim de Lange, both students Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Delft. For the first time in history a Dutch team participated in the Challenge. The small team did not only finish as winner but also broke all existing records. The average speed along the 3010-km long track was 91.8 km/h.

The Alpha Centauri Team was followed by the first Nuon Solar Team. They wanted to surpass the results of 2001 with the improved new Nuna 2.

Also in 2003 the Dutch team did what was expected. They defended the title and let all records far behind. With an average speed of 91 km/h they were the first team that got so close to the 100 km/h.

After their adventure in the Outback the team of Nuna 2 started the preparations for another big event.

In may 2004 the team participated in the Phaethon race in Greece. Afterwards they passed through entire Europe during the Adiante-tour. 6000 km after their departure in Athens they arrived in Porto, Portugal. This tour was initiated to bring the importance of sustainable energy under the attention of the European population.
