Nightcliff Primary School vs. the Netherlands (friendly)

Donderdagochtend, 5 voor half 9. Het veld ligt er strak bij en de teams van Nightcliff en Nuna5 zijn zich warm aan het spelen, een professionele warming up is ondanks het vroege uur niet nodig. Geleidelijk stromen de tribunes vol toeschouwers en de eerste leuzen zijn niet van de lucht.

Stipt om half 9 is de aftrap, welke wordt genomen door Nightcliff. Nightcliff heeft een sterke mix gevonden tussen leraren en leerlingen van de school, wat zich vertaalt in veel balbezit vanaf het begin. De wedstrijd komt snel op gang en het duurt dan ook niet lang voordat Thomas de eerste treffer maakt voor Nuna5. Dit laat Nightcliff niet op zich zitten en al snel is het 1-1. Vlak voor de rust wordt het zelfs 2-1.

Na de rust wisselen Jacco en Rutger van positie, de keeper wordt spits. Er wordt meer druk gezet vanuit het middenveld en van een goede voorzet weet Geert een prachtig doelpunt te maken. 2-2

De rest van de tweede helft komen er wel aanvallen, maar geen doelpunten meer van zowel Nightcliff als Nuna5. Totdat vlak na een corner van Nightcliff Thomas ontsnapt en zijn aanval aftopt met het winnende goal. Vlak voor het eindsignaal wordt er nog een keer gescoord en de stand is daarmee 4-2 voor Nuna5.

Thursday, 8.25 A.M. The field is ready and the teams from Nightcliff and Nuna5 are preparing for the game. A professional warming-up isn’t necessary, even given the early hour. Steadily, the crowd is gathering and the first footballsongs are to be heard.

9.30 A.M. Nightcliff wins the paper-scizzors-rock and gets to choose sides and the kickoff. Nightcliff has a strong mixed team of students and teachers, which pays off in their ball possession even at the start of the game. The game is quickly on the way and before long Thomas hits the first goal for Nuna5. Quickly after, Nightcliff hits back with a 1-1 score and just before half-time comes with a 2-1 score.

After the half time break Jacco and Rutger switch positions, the keeper becomes frontline player. There’s a lot more pressure from the mid-field and Geert knows how to turn a nice pass into a beautiful goal. 2-2.

The rest of the second half is filled with attempts but there’s no hits anymore from both teams. Until right after a corner taken by Nightcliff, Thomas escapes and scores the winning point.  Just before the final signal, there’s another goal which makes the final score 4-2 for Nuna5.
